Greater Things Have Yet To Come

I don't know about you but I've gotten to where I won't watch the first 10 minutes of the news at night because it's all about doom and gloom.

Recently, I started checking the front page of the newspaper and began counting all of the bad things happening in the world. It doesn't make any difference whether it's the economy forecast, the stock market dropping another 100 points, higher unemployment percentages, the war in Iraq, natural disasters...it seems as if everything is going down the tube.

There are days where I literally fight depression and times of anxiety in order to get out of the bed in the morning. However, I realize I do have a wife who still loves me (on most days), my kids still seem to like being around me (most of the time), I have an income (for the time being) and a nice house with two dogs (one likes me more than the other).

Yesterday my resolve changed.

During the music at my church, I was inspired by a song from Chris Tomlin entitled God of this City. He originally heard the song while on tour in Belfast, Ireland, but has since changed the arrangement some. A few of the words are:

"Greater things have yet to come, great things are still to be done in this city. Greater things are still to be done here."

I was encouraged.

I was encouraged to think and remember that although times might be tough right now, they won't always be. Greater things have yet to come, greater things are still to be done no matter where you are in life or what circumstances you are facing. It doesn't make any difference what company you work for, where you live, what your personal finances are, what your health condition is...we have to resolve to believe that greater things are still to be done no matter what the nightly news or daily newspapers say.  I must choose the attitude of knowing greater things are still to be done and spread the good news to others versus the doom and gloom of the nay sayers.

God, help me to have the attitude of Christ who promised us we would do even greater things than he did.

Questions: Do you really believe the best is yet to come? Greater things are still to be done? Who do you know that you could drop a note of  thanks for having the attitude of greater things are still to be done?

Thank you so much for your article . You are right about things seeming to be doom and gloom everywhere , but we are to remember what Jesus said . He is going to prepare for us a better place , so all this on earth doesn't matter . Other than bringing as many people as we can to Him , that is the bottom line . Praise GOD & Jesus . We can do all things through Him that suffered on the cross for us .

In His service & love ,

Thank you for your comment. If we don't learn to see with His eyes, hear with His ears and view things from a perspective not of this world, life pretty much is a downer.
