Lady GaGa and Humility- How They Could Be Related

You know how sometimes a message or a person comes to you at just the right time? When you need to be encouraged or need further understanding on something, "out of the blue" comes a revelation you needed. It happened to me this week in the blog from Seth Godin (www.sethgodin.com). Let me share with you some of what he wrote in his blog on "Lady GaGa and Me."

Do you think it bothers her that I don't listen to her music and wouldn't recognize her if she stopped by and said hi? (I don't like her music or know her either) It shouldn't. Even if you're a pop star, you don't need everyone to be a fan or a customer...it is a mistake to focus on the miser who isn't going to buy from you regardless...you're on the hunt for people willing to cross the street to work with you. Everyone else can pound sand, that's okay. Being remarkable also means being ignored or actively disliked. "

I have to confess, I'm a pleaser. Being the middle child in the birth order of my family, I try to please everyone and don't like it when people are not happy with me or criticize me. You would think after all these years I would be over it. I'm not. However this is what I'm learning:

  1. As friend of mine says, "Dogs don't bark at parked cars."
  2. If you're out front and leading, be sure to wear Arrow shirts.
  3. If I'm busy defending and protecting myself I'm setting myself up for a grim intense existence.
  4. Most of us have a human spirit of condemnation and being judgemental that we couldn't imagine living without.

And humility? "You can safely assume you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do." Anne Lamott
