Making a Difference for Just 5 Minutes

I got this idea from Seth Godin's recent blog, You Rock (www.sethgodin.typepad.com).

"You Rock. This is deceptive. You don't rock all the time. No one does. No one is a rock star, super star, world changing artist all the time. In fact, it's a self defeating goal. You can't do it.

No, but you might rock for 5 minutes a day.

Five minutes to tell the truth (or hear it). Five minutes a day you might do exceptional work, remarkable work, work that matters. And five minutes a day of rocking would be enough, because it would be five minutes more than just about anyone else."

I'm going to do him one better. You can rock for just 1-2 minutes a day. When you take the time to step into a direct reports cubicle and say you really appreciated the work they did, that will rock. Or, when you take the time to call or email someone and let them know the company, school, church, or organization would not be where it is without their input and hard work, you rock.

You rock when you take the time to call someone close to you on the way to work and say, "I love you, and you're an incredible person." You rock.

When my two kids were not much bigger than knee high to a grasshopper they would be watching television. I would fall down in front of them and say, "you know what?" "What?" "I'm the luckiest dad in the world because you're special to me!" ("Awe dad, now can you move? You're in the way."). Dad's rock. Mom's rock. You as a parent can rock.

Make a difference today and 'rock'. In less than 5 minutes, you can rock....even if you can't dance...

On another note, Randy Alvarado, a friend and excellent professional photographer (OKC zoo official photographer) sent me this 2 minute video on Two Questions That Can Change Your Life. Excellent thoughts and questions to ask yourself.

Wonder what your answer would be to these questions?

Good stuff, I put a rock my son gave me in front of me so it will hopefully be a reminder to "Rock" some everyday; I get to caught up in my stuff, so you should of heard the big pop a few seconds ago

I too have a rock my son Ryan gave me. I have one on my desk and one in my drawer. Need to pull the other one out as a reminder too.

Thanks for the "rock". I was always too busy trying to get off of 'em.... never thought of their motivational value. Can I throw them?
