"Stand Alone Together"-Curahee!

A friend, Ken Young, sent me this email a week ago, and it touched me so much I had to share it. As some of you know, I can be somewhat emotional at times (my kids say I cry when I read the yellow pages), and this was one of those moments. This is the story of Lt. Brian Brennan, wounded in Iraq and facing insurmountable odds. He was paid a visit by General Petraeus in the hospital while still in a coma when the general shouted to him the word, Curahee which means in Cherokee, "We Stand Alone Together". You will have to watch the video to see what happened. And, after watching the brief video see if you can't make applications for your life today, your work with others, the meaning of close relationships, endurance, never giving up, and whatever else comes to mind. One can't help but have a good day after watching this.

Ron, thank you for reminding all of us! This touched my heart and emotions in a big way! I have always had high regard for our military having a father, brother, husband, and nephew who have served. I have seen first hand the sacrifices that are made. Chris just celebrated his 22nd birthday and will probably deploy to Afghanistan soon. It is very common at our house in prayer to remember men, women, and their families that have served and are serving. In my classroom we say the Pledge of Allegiance everyday at school and try to teach my 3rd graders to understand why. I never sing the "National Anthem" without being moved and hope I never do. My favorite and only T.V. show I keep up with on a regular basis is Army Wives. I even have Dennis hooked on watching it with me.

Thank you for being a transparent father to your kids that they can see when things move you. Children are desperate for more fathers like that.

Thanks Ron, I think I heard you shout "Curahee" when you attacked the hill on the Goatneck ride on Saturday.
