Success, Attitude and a Little Tolerance Please

If there is one topic I continually go back to over and over again it has to do with attitude.

This week I read a blog post from Seth Godin that reminded me once again of how important one's attitude is. He mentions the hierarchy of success consisting of the following:

1. Attitude

2. Approach

3. Goals

4. Strategy

5. Tactics

6. Execution

We spend a lot of time on execution. Tactics tell us what to execute. Strategy determines what tactics might work. But what use is strategy if you don't have goals? Approach determines how you look at your career.  Quite simply this is knowing the difference between intentions and direction because direction, not intention, determines your destination.

But the one he mentions as the most important is ATTITUDE! It's how you deal with people, how you handle failure, how you treat those people you don't necessarily get along with, the work you do or neglect to do, and the decisions you make. ATTITUDE is one of only a few things that no one can take away from you, which ought to speak volumes.

I like what Chuck Swindoll said years ago about attitude:

I think the single most important decision I can make on a day-to-day basis is my choice of attitude. It is more important than my past, my education, my bankroll, my success or failures, fame or pain, what other people think of me, or say about me, my circumstances or position. When my attitudes are right, there's no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge to big for me.

Check your attitude today. Change it if you don't like it. It's up to you and know one else.

Finally, I wanted to include a brief video a friend sent to me on tolerance. It's about 4 minutes long and speaks volumes about our relationships with the people who mean the most to us.

Enjoy.
