That One Thing!

Ahh, City Slickers! "You know what the secret to life is?" If this is not one the greatest questions ever asked, it's up there with the best.

I just finished reading Made To Stick by Chip Heath and Dan Heath. In chapter one they discuss keeping things simple. In referring to the Combat Maneuver Training Center, the unit in charge of military simulations, all officers are asked to answer these two questions:

  1. If we do nothing else during tomorrow's mission we must....?
  2. The single, most important thing that we must do tomorrow is...?

Don't you wish more people asked these questions? For example:

  • In planning for board meetings?
  • Before someone gives a speech, a presentation, or a sermon?
  • When parents are raising their kids and deciding on exactly what's important?
  • When leading a company, a team or direct reports over the next month, year?
  • When making important decisions, period.
  • I know you can think of others.

I'm fairly confident trauma centers ask questions similar to these two. Wonder why?

Great questions.

Have a great Fourth! God Bless You and may He continue to Bless America.
