These are crazy times!

Most of the individuals who read my blog don't remember the days when we practiced duck-and-cover air-raid drills in school. As time went on, schools changed the reason for this drill from air-raid to tornado drills.  However, you still did the same thing:  You got down on your knees, covered your head with your hands, and then put your head between your knees. I really think principals had us do this drill as punishment for his having a bad day.

We live in crazy times and many people think we need to practice duck-and-cover drills again. Sure the economy is lack luster, including ridiculous gas prices, inflation, war, terrorism, three people running for President that make one wonder "is this the best we have to offer?" Many people are whining, complaining, worrying but also wishing.

The truth is there have been worse times for business. Worse times in the world. And possibly for some of us, worse times in our own lives. So can we stop for a minute and quit thinking about how bad things are and start thinking along the lines of what do these crazy times demand?

Doing business and living life as usual during crazy times is a sure fire set up for more failure. While many of us whine and wait, I guarantee others who will succeed are not. I guarantee the people you work with are desperately looking for something exciting, something to feel passionate about, and something they can genuinely engage in. And if you're a leader, you're the one called to provide that choice. Leaders set the example by choosing optimism, action, excellence, gratitude, insight, and inspiration. It only takes one second to decide if you will be the one to make a difference or to do business as usual?

A paraphrase of a Bible verse-"if you think times are tough now and you can't keep up with man, what are you going to do when the real storms hit and you have to run with horses?"
