Why Should President Obama Hire Me?

Now some of you are thinking, "Dr. Ron has lost his marbles!" Much like Toodles in the movie Hook I may have lost my marbles, but I eventually will find them (see the video at the end to remind those of you who saw the movie. Also I love the last comment by Peter Pan!). Seriously, I really was thinking yesterday about reasons why someone would want to hire me (or you and the services you provide).

So what would the President want to know if he really thought about hiring me as a consultant?

1. He would want to know if I could help him with his biggest problem. And what would that problem be? Most would think it's the economy, healthcare, world peace, or global warming. Nope. His biggest problem is the same problem for every CEO, COO, CIO, manager, teacher, team leader, or even a pastor of a church. It isn't a business problem. It's a people problem. Think about it. Who or what does he struggle with the most? People. He has a few 100 or so people problems I could assist him with. What is your biggest problem you deal with every day? People.

2. He will want to know if working with me will make a difference. The answer is Yes, if we first clarify his clear intentions and desires. Is my working with him for personal issues (like his marriage relationship with Mrs. Obama, or smoking cessation)? Or is it working with his team, cabinet members, or developing a leader to get him to step up and be an example of a true leader (like maybe work with Joe Biden-sorry couldn't help that one!). When working with someone, if you don't know exactly where you're going, you won't know when you get there. In Mr. Obama's case, I can assist him with his personal, team and developing leaders issues.

3. Finally, he would want to know why working with me is different than anyone else. My work will be tailored for him and him alone. It will be unique. But first, since we have never met he would have to determine if he liked me. People don't work with nor do business with people they don't like. And secondly, if he did work with me could he trust me? Trust takes time, and trust comes with confidence in each other.

So, you and I both know my chances of working with Mr. Obama are slim and none (and Slim left town). However for me, like you, the three points above are true for anyone you are wanting to do business with, have a relationship with, try to influence, work with, teach, or impact in any way. Think these three points over and decide your answers as to why someone or some business should work with you, go to your church, be in your class, or just have a relationship with you.

In conclusion, these were just thoughts intended to make you think and not insult the President. He has enough people problems already. However, if  you think I can assist you or someone else with people issues, let me know.

Toodles...
