Wisdom

I have been intending to write this blog for a while but have found myself distracted. Not today! For those who might read my blog and be offended by something I write that has spiritual connotations, this is one of those times. It has to do with becoming wise. Like my company implies- Sage Concepts- I know where sage advice originates. Not from me, but from God.

Many people think what's written in the Bible has mostly to do with getting people into heaven, getting right with God, and saving souls. While it does have something to do with that, God also desires to assist us in how to live on 'earth as it is in heaven.' Wisdom is exactly that...living on-this-earth-as-it-is-in heaven. It's called 'living every day'. The kind of wisdom mentioned in the Bible is not 'college knowledge', not some way to become 'smarter' with more information or some kind of certification. The kind of wisdom mentioned in the book of Proverbs written by 'the wisest man to ever live means this:

Live in such a way as to respect and know God, honor your mom and dad, handle money and finances in such a way that things don't own you, go to work, be a leader, treat people with kindness and don't take advantage of them, eat and drink in a healthy way, cultivate emotions and relationships in such a way that people admire you. All of these things are threaded together like a tapestry encompassing how God wants us to live like Him  on-this-earth-as-it-is-in-heaven.

If you desire to become wise, spend every day in just one chapter of Proverbs for 30 days and then repeat the process. (I recommend The Message version by Eugene Peterson). Then read it again. And again. Every day for the rest of your life. Apply it as best you can. In so doing others will seek you out as not only a wise person but someone who has brought a little heaven to their earth.

I have to be honest and say my desire is to be known as a wise man.

"It takes wisdom to build a house, and understanding to set it on a firm foundation." Proverbs

This is the center of our faith. Read Dallas Willard's book "The Divine Conspiracy" which captures this idea. It's not what we think or believe as much as what we do with what we believe.

Thanks Craig, I need to pick it up. And you are correct it's putting actions to our words and beliefs but it's a whole lot more comfortable to just say it and acknowledge it than live it.
